Zamioculcus Raven
The Zamioculcas Raven, also known as the Black ZZ plant, is a tropical succulent houseplant with dark purple-black leaves. It's a hybrid of the Zamioculcas zamiifolia species, which is native to Zanzibar.
Characteristics
- Appearance: Small, wide, glossy, dark leaves that zig-zag up tall, slender stems
- Growth rate: Slow, starting at 6 inches and eventually reaching 3 feet in height and width
- Light: Does best with bright indirect sunlight, but can grow in very low levels of light
- Toxicity: Medium toxicity for humans and animals
- Air purifying: Removes volatile organic compounds such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene from the air
Care
- Water sparingly and let the soil dry out between waterings
- Avoid overwatering, which can cause root rot
- Make sure your soil is completely dry before watering again
- You can sometimes get away with watering just once a month
